Why a table rather than a PDF
A PDF is the fastest way for an owner to get a price list onto a site and the slowest route for a customer to reach a number. It downloads, opens in another app, does not read on a phone, and search engines take almost nothing from it.
A table on the page can be sorted by price, grouped by material and searched in the browser. The customer answers the question they would otherwise phone about, and you take one call fewer.
On a narrow screen the same rows render as cards. Sideways scrolling is the worst option for a table: the reader pushes the first column, the item name, off screen and the numbers then belong to nothing.
When it makes no sense
When prices change weekly and nobody owns them. An out of date price list is worse than none, because customers calculate from it and then argue.
And when the prices are individual per customer. That belongs behind a login, not on a public page.
